Avensys Data Centre Shutdown
Webarchitects have hosted our physical servers in the Avensys Networks Sheffield data Centre for over 15 years. This data centre is closing and following are FAQs related to the impact this will have for services provided by infrastructure hosted there.
When?
We provisionally plan to star powering down server, prior to unplugging and unracking them from 8am on Saturday 26th July 2025. https://www.ashtonoldbaths.co.uk/data-centre/
Where?
We will be moving the servers to a co-operatively managed data centre on the other side of the Pennines, the Ashton Old Baths Data Centre.
How much downtime?
We will work as quickly as we can but we have a lot of kit to move so we don't expect services to start coming back online until Saturday afternoon or evening.
Where will progress updates be posted?
We will post updates to our Status Site, this site is totally independent of our Sheffield infrastructure.
Will emails be lost?
No email will be lost, email will be delayed but will still get through. You won't be able to send email while our servers are offline.
Are DNS updates required?
No DNS updates will be needed as the IP address range we use will also be moving.
Will the server be powered by green electricity?
The data centre is shared between Tameside Council, the local NHS Trust and CNI. Tameside Council owns the building where the data centre is located. The council sources power in line with its Climate Change & Environment Strategy 2021–2026.
